Badener Mountain, north of Baden near Vienna, is considered to be one of the oldest locations of the Thermenregion. Already in the 11th century it was first mentioned in Latin literature as Monte Badensi. At 350 m above sea level, it offers a wonderful view of Vienna. The large area is bordered by the Vienna Woods, the nights and the climate are cool. St. Laurent and Merlot grow here on 10 - 20-year-old vines. Relatively heavy soils such as clayey soil, sandy loam and limestone brown are mainly found here. The soil is well drained and warmed by the underlying weathering debris and deep layers of alluvium.
